Officials and guests at the ribbon-cutting to mark the official re-opening of the new-look Confucius Institute at Lancaster University with Professor Dame Sue Black (second from right) and the Mayor of Lancaster, Coun Andrew Kay (fourth from right) with Mr Qin from Hanban (fourth from left) and Mr Chen Xuefeng (second from left) from the Chinese Consulate in Manchester.

Top Notch Contractors delivered the £500k internal and external refurbishment work to the building in the capacity of Principal Contractor. The works included full internal and external refurbishment, additional windows and the addition of a lift shaft.

Working on behalf of Lancaster University during works, we identified the potential to recycle and re-use existing on-site materials such as carpet tiles, ceiling tiles, doors, and locking mechanisms. In addition to reducing waste disposal costs and providing environmental benefit, this has reduced the university’s repair budget expenditure. Due to this initiative, the project is set be given the BREEAM Excellence Award.
